Why cleansing (or detox) is a good idea especially when you are over 50?
It is because of inflammation.
If you suffer from low energy, chronic fatigue, frequent colds, allergies, headaches, indigestion, constipation, mood swings, anxiety, depression, or any kind of skin problems. You may be suffering from inflammation, or build-up of toxins in your body.
Sometimes these kinds of symptoms are attributed to aging. More than aging, they are direct result of lifestyle. If you have lived this way all your life, it is more an accumulation of inflammation problem rather than aging problem.

It is generally recommended doing a whole body cleanse at least once a year – not only to expel toxins, but to promote elimination, give the internal organs a rest, and refuel the body with healthy nutrients.

(1) Once you wake up in the morning:
Take a few minutes to stretch and take several slow deep breaths. By bringing more oxygen into the body, it promotes blood flow and lymphatic drainage – vital for removing toxins from the body.
(2) Start each day with a warm lemon water.
Squeeze half a lemon into an 8 oz glass of warm water. No sugar please! Warm lemon water stimulates the liver and aids in the digestion process while eliminating constipation.
(3) Eliminate alcohol, caffeine, dairy products, salt, and refined sugar and flour during your detox.
If you`re a coffee drinker, opt for green tea instead. Green tea (which contains potent antioxidants) does contain some caffeine, but substantially less than coffee, and unlike coffee, the caffeine is released slowly into the system

(4) Eat 5-6 healthy meals throughout the day.

There is not getting away from the fact that as we age, we get all the effects of what we did in the past, including our lifestyle in eating. Hi Hanna, Wow, your list must have been taken from my life. I have no energy, always tired, headaches and anxiety seem to rule my days and nights. Your detox plan sounds like a thing I should do. I live on coffee (lots of refined sugar added), cigarettes, and because I work nights, my sleep pattern is about as messed up as it can be. I do get plenty of exercise, walking about 5 miles a day; and I usually get in about an hour worth of meditation each day so I guess all is not lost. Thanks for the tips (and heads up) about detoxing. I will be giving it a try.
