5 Natural Ways To Protect Your Body From Aging

Natural ways to protect your body from aging

For many centuries, finding ways to slow down aging to a crawl has been an obsession. How we wish there was an easy way to protect our body from aging – specially through natural ways.

Fortunately there is! According to recent research protecting the tiny caps on the ends of your chromosomes, which are called telomeres, is the key to a longer, healthier life.

These telomeres are just like the plastic tips at the end of shoelaces. So, just imagine your shoelaces without the plastic tips or coating, it becomes frayed until they can no longer do their job. Just like the DNA strands (chromosomes), without the telomeres, it becomes damaged and our cells can’t do their job.

Telomeres are shortened as we age, but telomeres can also be shortened by stress, smoking, obesity, lack of exercise and a poor diet.

Luckily, if we change our lifestyles and follow a healthy way of living we can protect the telomeres and thus, protect our body from aging.

Here are 5 Natural ways to protect our body from aging:

1. Eat lots of berries.

Foods which are high in vitamins C and E, such as blueberries, and raspberries, protect telomeres from oxidative damage. In some studies, following berries with a multivitamin will significantly benefit the body. In the said study, telomeres of women who took a daily multivitamin were 5percent longer than those of non-users. It further explains that most of us are deficient in at least one essential nutrient needed to keep telomeres strong. Thus, a multivitamin gives your body what it needs to fight aging.

2. Regularly drinking coffee.

It was mentioned in one study in The Journal of Nutrition, that there were about 4,700 women who drink two cups of regular or decaf coffee daily have longer telomeres. Also, in an article in Genius Foods, it was mentioned that “Coffee is a major source of anti-inflammatory polyphenols, helping fight chronic inflammation. This, is in turn, can help keep your telomeres nice and long.”

3. Eliminate stress by reading novels.

Any woman who is highly stressed can attest to the fact that it ages you, and this truth is confirmed by lots of studies and research in science. The telomeres of chronically stressed woman look 10 years older than those of less stressed person. One way to eliminate the effect of that stress according to some studies is to read! According to The Journal of Science and Healing, enjoying a good book triggers a significant drop in stress and anxiety in minutes, helping you to live longer!

4. Adding whole-wheat pasta in your diet.

Whole-wheat pasta can provide about quarter of your daily fiber intake, which is essential because fiber helps shield telomeres from free radical damage. In addition to that, the pasta has about 160mcg of folic acid which is a nutrient that optimizes the activity of telomerase, and enzyme that makes telomeres longer.

5. Exercise more.

Middle-aged folks who exercise regularly, about 30 minutes three or four times a week has telomeres that are about 75% longer than those of other people. Moving more or exercise helps prevent shortening of telomeres by increasing vascular function and inflammation.

In conclusion,

I am so glad to know and to share to you that there are definitely natural ways to protect our body from aging. Let us all make sure our telomeres are long and intact.

Thanks for reading, and if you have any thoughts about this topic, please leave a comment.

  1. Great info and good post.

I never knew that pasta could help you with preventing aging, as well as drinking coffee regularly.

I never drink coffee so I should consider drinking it, no?

Does tea also helps to prevent aging, like coffee does?

    Waiting for your answer.

Thanks à lot for sharing it with us.

    1. Hi! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

If you are not drinking coffee, that is ok.  Tea also has a lot of benefits to the body but i am not quite sure if it has effects on the telomeres.

  2. Thank for your article.  I especially like the exercising part of it because I have recently enrolled to a gym where I exercise at least four times a week and my body has really changed within the short time.  I am more energetic and look younger now.  My way of releasing stress is through dancing which again helps me out with exercising.

    1. Hi Rutz, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Definitely, exercising has a lot of benefit to the body and mind.  If you do this regularly, you will feel much healthier and younger.

  3. Neat! This is the first time I’ve heard about telomeres. I never even knew that our DNA strands had shoelace like closed ending. It’s a great article on aging. Something I think many us fight with as we pass the age of 50. I love berries, so will have no issue getting those. But coffee is something which I’m still trying to develop a taste for. Thanks for the great post.

  4. Dear Hanna,

Your article certainly made me think more on the subject. Thanks a lot for the helpful post.

To be honest everyone one wants to protect their body from aging. My grandma she is 85+ years old, she is still worried about her hair loss and skin wrinkle a lot Lol.

I always prefer natural ways so I really enjoyed your article and happy to follow it. I fail on not implementing things so I am going to implement what I learned from your post. I love reading books so rest of the 4 is going directly on my to do list and I am going to focus on those.

Best wishes to you, your family and your success,

    Warm Regards,Paul

    1. Thanks Paul for sharing your thoughts.  Yes, i think people are really into the quest of staying young. I am glad that these simple recommendations can help.

      All the best to you!

  5. Wow! I never knew decaf coffee contained anti-aging properties. If anything, I would’ve thought it was unhealthy for you. What about caffeinated coffee? Or does it not contain anti-aging properties like decaf coffee?

i knew about keeping stress levels down and eating berries rich in antioxidants being important to anti-aging. Isn’t vitamin oil good for anti-aging as well?

    Looking forward to your answer!

    B

    1. Hi Britney, thanks for reading and leaving a comment on my article. I have mentioned both regular and decaf coffee are both helpful in this regard because it has the anti-inflammatory polyphenols that are helpful in making telomeres strong.  But then again,in anything, we should always have it in moderation.

      All the best!

  6. That is a brilliant explanation of Telomeres. I will probably not forget the shoelace analogy. it’s a good thing I love berries, especially blueberries with their high fibre content and vitamin contents. I am not much of a coffee drinker but I am willing to start if it has such good health benefits.

i never knew how good whole wheat pasta is for you but considering the fibre and folic acid quantities it makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for sharing these great tips.
