The Best Multivitamins For Women Over 50 In 2019

In order to achieve optimum health, women over 50 will need a healthy diet, regular exercise, and taking multivitamins. Having the correct ingredients of the multivitamins that you will take daily is vital as it can not only improve your day to day functions, but can also add to the years of your life.

In choosing the Best Multivitamins for you, you have to consider two important things:

1. Be aware of your Iron Intake. When a woman reaches menopause, it is recommended that she lowers her iron intake. Taking and extra dose of iron is unnecessary and could potentially be harmful if she is taking too much in supplemental form alongside the iron that you get naturally from your diet.

2. It should be Good to the Digestive System. The true key to optimal health in your 50`s is a healthy digestive system. Healthy gut means healthy life. So, choose multivitamins with probiotics on it. Studies show that the most common health issues which can develop as we get older are under nutrition, constipation, and a weakened immune system. Probiotics will have positive effects on these issues. As the gut is where our nutrients are processed as well as the heart of our immune system, it just makes sense to incorporate probiotics in your multivitamins.

  1. Interesting review on vitamins. If we eat a healthy diet, do we really need to take supplements? I do like what Nature’s Way Alive! has to offer and will give it a try.
One thing I read recently was about calcium supplements and why we should avoid them and the significant importance of magnesium. Do you agree?

    1. Hi Karen.. thanks for sharing your thoughts.. You are correct, if we are eating healthy, we do not need to take supplements. They are just “supplements” if our diet is not sufficient.

The initial benefit of calcium is for bone and dental health. If we have too much calcium in our system and not properly absorbed (Vitamin D helps in Calcium`s absorption), it tends to create calcifications (stones). But in this scenario, calcium is not really the culprit, sodium reduction is helpful for stone prevention.  So, instead of reducing calcium intake, limit the sodium (salts) in your diet.

Magnesium has lots of significance in our body, specifically for our nerve system, maintenance of healthy bones, and for normal muscle contraction, and it is still used as an antacid and as a laxative.  That is why, if we take calcium which has a side-effect of constipation, it is also good to take magnesium

I hope these additional informations help.

  2. This was a great article. This article is perfect for someone like my mother (don’t tell her I said that lol). I will definitely pass on this information along to her.

    1. Thank you Justin.. And let her know too that although there are so many kinds of multivitamins nowadays, make sure to read what`s on it.. Probiotics are essential:)

  3. These are a LOT of choices and I am over 50. Which one do you think overall provides the best benefit? I am kind of a fan of gummies, but I do know that you cannot always get the best with gummies. Thanks!

    1. As i have mentioned, it is still your preference, as long as it has probiotics for good absorption. Right now, i am taking Alive! I have been using it for some time now. But, i think, i will try the Naturelo Whole Food Multivitamins. I have heard good reviews about it.

  4. Thank you so much for sharing! I will definitely recommend these to my mother who is always looking to improve her health. Although, I think a healthy and balanced diet always outweighs supplementation, a multi-vitamin can help fill the gaps.

    1. You`re welcome Will. It`s true, these are supplements that will help fill in the gaps or help sustain whatever our body needs. Eating a healthy and balanced diet is still more important.

  5. Hi Hannah,
Thanks so much for the review. I really like some of these vitamins. Now I just have to decide which one to pick, haha. I wish everything could be combined into one!
I’m postmenopausal and need more calcium. But because I have kidney stones, I can only take one form of calcium, which unfortunately isn’t the one in most vitamin pills. I need calcium citrate. Can you recommend one?
    Cheers,
    Suzanne

    1. Hi Suzanne, i am hoping your doctor recommended you to take calcium citrate, since you have kidney stones. Anyway, there is this supplement that has been getting good reviews: Thorne Research Cal-Mag Citrate Effervescent Powder. It is a convenient method of Calcium-Magnesium supplementation with added Vitamin C. The powder reacts when mixed with water, resulting in formation of well-absorbed citrate, ascorbate, and glycinate minerals. This is a convenient way to supplement with high amounts of these minerals. I highly recommend this product for calcium citrate.
      Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
